On the Fens plateau, occasional restrictions may be imposed due to specific weather conditions (fire risks, snow, fog, etc.) or exceptional circumstances (nesting season, construction work, etc.).
Please strictly adhere to these regulations to ensure your safety, preserve these natural areas, and avoid fines in case of violations.
Your dog is welcome in the Fens as long as it is kept on a leash at all times. Only part of the Walloon Fens is off-limits to animals (a detour is in place so you can still enjoy your walk).
A green flag indicates that the Fens plateau is open to the public: everything is fine, and you are warmly welcomed!
Access prohibited in certain areas
A red flag indicates that access to certain areas of the Fens plateau is prohibited.
There may be several reasons for the partial restriction of access to the Hautes Fagnes plateau:
Fire risk. If a fire breaks out while you are in the reserve, you face a serious danger.
Environmental protection. During periods of high tourist influx, such as in winter 2020-2021, the local fauna and flora suffer from human pressure. Closure of the high plateau may also be considered in cases such as black grouse nesting, the presence of wolves, etc.
Flooding.

Reminder: If you are found in a closed area, you risk a fine of 250 euros per person!
