BIVOUAC AREA OF THE BERGERIE (BAELEN)

STAY CLOSE TO THE "ROOF" OF BELGIUM AND IMMERSE YOURSELF IN A RAW AND AUTHENTIC NATURE.

Located less than 10 kilometres from the Signal de Botrange, the highest point in the Benelux, the bivouac area is situated at the foot of the High Fens plateau.

The climate can be hostile in this region. For this reason, safety rules must be observed when walking on the High Fens plateau:

  • Download the 112 application beforehand to enable rescue personnel to find you if you get lost.
  • Have a charged mobile phone/smartphone.
  • Check access to the entrance of certain areas (red flag = no access)
  • Have recent maps and a compass.
  • Beware of fog, which can be sudden and thick.
  • Inform a trusted person of your stay in the area beforehand.

This bivouac area is managed by the Walloon Agency of Nature and Forests (DNF) of the Verviers cantonment. DNF guards carry out regular checks and punish disrespectful visitors.

Booking an overnight stay in the bivouac area of the bergerie

In order to manage the frequentation of the site and to avoid saturation of the bivouac area, a reservation system has been set up.

You can reserve one or more tent pitches. This depends on the availability on the desired date. Each defined pitch can accommodate a maximum of 2 tents for 2 people.

The managers of the High Fens-Eifel Nature Park and the Walloon Agency of Nature and Forests (DNF) have access to the reservation data in order to be able to carry out checks in the field and to follow up any inappropriate behaviour.

At certain times (hunting, weather or forestry warnings, etc.), it is possible that some dates may be unavailable.

Once the form has been completed and sent, you will receive a confirmation by e-mail (remember to check for spam). If you need to cancel your reservation, please inform the managers of the High Fens-Eifel Nature Park by sending an e-mail to info@botrange.be.
