BIVOUAC AREA OF THE SOOR (BAELEN / EUPEN)

ENJOY A NIGHT IN THE FOREST ONLY A STONE'S THROW FROM THE CITY OF EUPEN.

This bivouac area is located in one of the largest forests in Belgium, the Hertogenwald, near Eupen, at the foot of the High-Fens plateau and at the confluence of the Soor and Hill rivers.

The bivouac area is located in one of the most extensive forests in Belgium, the Hertogenwald, at the foot of the High-Fens plateau. It is accessible all year round except for a few days during the hunting season (October – December).

You can spend a night in this bivouac area. It is intended for hikers, cyclists and horse riders but not for motorised vehicles.

This bivouac area is managed by the Walloon Agency of Nature and Forests (DNF) of the Verviers cantonment. Regular checks are carried out by DNF officers, who can fine disrespectful visitors.

Practical information

– No toilets on site.
– There is no drinking water on site.
– There is a river on the edge of the bivouac area.
– Unless otherwise indicated at the entrance to the area (in times of drought or strong winds), a small campfire is allowed in the designated areas (stone fire ring).
– It is forbidden to cut wood or damage nature for the purpose of making a fire.
– The area must be kept clean and users are obliged to take their rubbish with them.
– It is requested to respect other campers, the river and nature (silence and cleanliness)

Regulations and good practices

10 tips to keep in mind for your safety and peace of mind!

  1. Daytime camping is not allowed.
  2. Always respect the maximum number of campers on the site.
  3. Only pitch your tent in the area reserved for the bivouac zone.
  4. Unless otherwise posted, a small campfire is allowed in the designated areas (stone rings).
  5. Respect the fauna, flora and rivers. It is forbidden to cut wood or cause damage to nature.
  6. Ensure the peace and quiet of other users and the conviviality of the site. The bivouac areas are not places for parties or student parties!
  7. Always take your rubbish with you. The area must remain clean and welcoming.
  8. Never leave the bivouac area with a fire burning.
  9. Always keep your dog on a lead.
  10. Comply with the instructions of the DNF officers.

Booking an overnight stay in the bivouac area of the soor (baelen)

In order to manage the frequentation of the site and to avoid saturation of the bivouac area, a reservation system has been set up.

You can reserve one or more tent pitches. This depends on the availability on the desired date. Each defined pitch can accommodate a maximum of 2 tents for 2 people.

The managers of the High Fens-Eifel Nature Park and the Walloon Agency of Nature and Forests (DNF) have access to the reservation data in order to be able to carry out checks in the field and to follow up any inappropriate behaviour.

At certain times (hunting, weather or forestry warnings, etc.), it is possible that some dates may be unavailable.

Once the form has been completed and sent, you will receive a confirmation by e-mail (remember to check for spam). If you need to cancel your reservation, please inform the managers of the High Fens-Eifel Nature Park by sending an e-mail to info@botrange.be.
